Palm Springs Aerial Tram Tickets in California

Palm Springs Tours provides tickets to visit the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway all year, except when The Tramway is closed for annual maintenance in September.

The Aerial Tramway is the world’s largest rotating tramcar systems. It carries visitors from an elevation of over 2000 feet to a Mountain Station located at the 8,516 foot level of Mt. San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness.

Experience transportation by tram to the top of the mountain. At the top, there are outdoor activities and areas to camp, hike, cross-country ski, picnic, dine, shop, or just to relax and enjoy the amazing scenery.

The Tramway was built in 1963 as a way of getting to Mt. San Jacinto State Park from the floor of the Coachella Valley. The ride up North America’s sheerest mountain face passes through several different temperate zones on its way to the Mountain Station at over 8500 feet above mean sea level. Some say it is like a motor trip from Mexico to Canada in terms of the geologic and climatic changes.

It is not necessary to specify a time of day on your ticket request because you can plan your day as you choose. Trams depart every 30 minutes from 10:00 am Monday through Friday and 8:00 am Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. The last car up the mountain is at 8:00 pm and last car down is at 9:45 pm. Memorial Day to Labor Day last car up is at 9:00 pm and last car down is at 10:30 pm.

At the top of the mountain there are hiking trails, camping, and picnic areas. During the winter months cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are available (snow conditions permitting). There is a gift shop with an outside patio at the top, as well as casual and gourmet dining. There are also several picnic points and observation sites with telescopes. A theatre at the top of the mountain that shows two movies, one involving the building of the tram and the other is the history of the State Park.

It’s much cooler at the top of the mountain so remember to take a sweater or jacket with you. It can be 30-40 degrees cooler at the Mountain Station (8,516 feet) than at the Valley Station. The ride to the top of the tram is two and one half miles from the Valley station, up Chino Canyon, about 10 minutes each way. The views you will see are breathtaking and stretch some 50 miles in every direction. The tramcar slowly rotates to provide optimal views of every part of the countryside.

This tramway is known to many as one of the “wonders of the engineering world” because the towers supporting the cables and the tram cars ascending the mountain were erected with the assistance of helicopters more than 40 years ago in 1963.

A permit is required for any hiking or backpacking in the Wilderness. Permits can be obtained, free of charge at the top of the Tramway. Equipment rental is available (snow conditions permitting). Free parking is available in several lots. Buses and campers are welcomed.
